Karak (Urdu: کرک) is a district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan. It is situated inthe south of Kohat District and also share boundaries with Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Mianwali and Warizistan districts on the main Indus Highway (NA-55) between Peshawar and Karachi - it is 123 km from the provincial capital Peshawar. History Until 1940, this whole area was ruled by the Teri Nawab. Teri was the capital and the only Tehsil. It had tappas (satrapies): Teri, Seni, Khurram and Barak. Between 1940 and 1982 it was a part of Kohat, after the July 1, 1982, it has been an separate district. The district is predominantly populated by Khattak tribe. The series of high and low mountains of salt range enter into Karak from Punjab. There are large number of salt mines in Jatta Ismail Khel, Garh jawal khel and Bahadar Khel areas. There are also large number of mines of Gypsum in Jatta valley and Garh jawal khel. District Karak is rich in Oil & Gas. The people of Karak are famous for their hospitality.
